This new program will address present issues that all communities and nationalities
are facing today. Within many multicultural cities there is a greater need for better
education, understanding and more sophisticated programs than ever that will cater
to all ages. New immigrants and modern families face vast problems and have difficulty
adapting to new challenges in society. Families find it difficult to integrate past
experiences when raising children of the modern world. Using technology and the
media as a tool for bridging the gap that far too many families encounter will be
effective in eliminating many of these problems faced today. The program will also
use medical and scientific evidence as factual basis when addressing issues such
as alcoholism, tobacco and drug use. This awareness program will help people distinguish
between right and wrong by outlining better family values, emphasizing the importance
of respect, educating the younger and older generation, and stressing the benefits
of a healthy lifestyle. It will teach people how to make the right choices in a
time when the line between right and wrong is so often blurred.
Brief History -
Gurmat Training Institution
This institution started in 1997 with about 15 students. It was originally designed
to help students understand the Sikh religion by being taught both in English and
Punjabi. However, as the years progressed, the Gurmat Training Institution has become
more of an “awareness program,” which addresses issues and problems many teenagers
and families face on an everyday basis. These familiar issues include the impact
of divorce, smoking, drugs, alcohol, youth problems, parent concerns, education,
healthy eating, and gangs. These problems are addressed using lectures, PowerPoint
presentations, and movies. Today we have 700+ students that attend these classes
including parents. On advertised presentation days, there are over 2000 students
that attend. This institution is open to anyone and everyone, all are welcome to
join. In a few short years, the Gurmat Training Institution has become a staple
in the community. Its popularity has increased yearly and due to the high demand
of addressing social issues, parents and teenagers continue to attend the ever growing
class. It is designed to help all communities and will be targeted as such. |
